Mike Pringle Backs Petition to Stop Airport Drop Off Charge

Mike Pringle MSP has backed a campaign lead by Edinburgh West MSP Margaret Smith and MP Mike Crockart to stop Edinburgh Airport to introducing a £1 charge for dropping off passengers at its terminal building by car.

The £1 fee is expected to be introduced in October this year. There will still be a free drop-off zone but it will be relocated to the long-stay car park at the airport, where passengers will be able to catch a bus to the terminal.

The £1 fee will be enforced by barriers at a new drop-off zone on the ground-floor of the airport's multi-storey car park. The plate recognition scheme will work by charging drivers as they leave the area, with initial charges pegged at £1 for 10 minutes.

Commenting Mike Pringle said

"£1 is a ridiculous charge for such a minor use of facilities.

"I'm particularly concerned about how this charge will affect the elderly and infirm who wish to use the airport.

"Make no mistake, this is simply a money making exercise by BAA Edinburgh."
