Local people welcome new traffic lights at Mayfield Road and West Savile Terrace6.51.40pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 21st May 2010 Local people and Sciennes parents have welcomed the switch on of the new traffic signals at the junction of Mayfield Road and West Savile Terrace. A full set of traffic signals have now been installed as the junction was flagged up as an area with a higher than anticipated number of personal injury collisions, particularly involving cyclists. Local resident and former Newington Councillor Fred Mackintosh said, "I am really pleased with these new lights. The junction, which lies to the rear of the Royal Blind School, was a key part of the Sciennes Primary School Travel Plan as a particular concern to parents walking children to and from school and it now feels so much safer." Council Leader Jenny Dawe said, "Tackling road safety problems is a high priority and our policy of channelling resources towards those areas with the worst accident rates has contributed to continuous improvements over a significant number of years."
