5.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th Apr 2010
The Liberal Democrats today launched plans to create jobs that last by stimulating a green, sustainable economy. The plans include investing in wind energy, energy efficiency in public buildings and homes, and bringing empty homes back into use through renovation.
Commenting on the launch prospective Liberal Democrat MP Fred Mackintosh said:
"Last week the Liberal Democrats outlined our plans to allow homeowners to take control of their energy through energy efficiency and microregenerative measures.
"Today Nick Clegg set out further details of our costed plan for an immediate green job creation package, taking over £3bn of savings to invest in housing, transport and green energy.
"This will provide an immediate jobs boost and help create the green infrastructure we need for a low carbon economy. By investing now in the green technologies of the future, such as those currently under development at the Napier University Institute for Sustainable Construction, as well as a low carbon infrastructure through rail travel, we will create skilled, green jobs across the UK."
