Save Warrender Park Road Post Office Petition hits 3198 names

Mike Pringle MSP & Fred Mackintosh hand in their 3198 signature petition against the closure of Warrender Park Road Post Office

Liberal Democrat campaigners Fred Mackintosh and Mike Pringle MSP have sent into Royal Mail their petition against the closure of Warrender Park Road Post Offices. Deadline for objections is Monday 29 September 2008.

"I want to thank everyone who signed" said Fred Mackintosh "The petition has been in the post office since early August. The sub postmaster Mr Smalley has been delighted by the huge level of public support. It is truly magnificent."

The 3198 signature petition was sent to Royal Mail along with 261 individual objections sent to the Liberal Democrat team by residents across Marchmont and Edinburgh South in the period since the closure was announced on 19 August. Mike and Fred also sent their formal objection letter to Royal Mail and it can be read on the link below.

Local MSP Mike Pringle said "Graham and Jean are well respected and popular with all their customers. In the letters we have received office has been described as an "outstanding community resource", "a minor miracle", "brilliant and efficiently run" and that closure would be "an utter tragedy for Marchmont". I agree. Local people feel that the dedication and commitment of the Sub postmaster should be rewarded."
