We all know people who are finding it hard to make ends meet. Fuel and food bills are up. We all have to be careful with our money. The Scottish Liberal Democrats are calling for more help for low income taxpayers by a major tax cut for those on low and middle incomes paid for by taxes on pollution and the removal of tax breaks for very high earners.

"People in Edinburgh are feeling the pinch at present. This is just the right sort of action to give low and middle income people a boost" said Lib Dem South Edinburgh Westminster Spokesperson Fred Mackintosh.

On Sunday 14 September the new leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Tavish Scott challenged the other political parties in Scotland to work with him to cut the income tax rate by two pence in the pound. The Lib Dems already propose a cut for the whole of the UK from 20p in the pound to 16p. Mr Scott's proposal would take the rate to 14p in the pound for Scottish taxpayers.
