City Council Leader - Lib Dem Jenny Dawe has confirmed in her August Leader's Report that the popular garden waste collection scheme will cover a further 10,000 households and will now be a year round service, with monthly collections during the winter.

"Edinburgh residents are really embracing the Reduce Reuse Recycle message and helping to increase Edinburgh's recycling rate" said Councillor Dawe "The Council has previously provided fortnightly collections of green/garden waste to approximately 100,000 households for nine months of the year, covering the main growing period. Our research indicates that the proposed expansion and extension will generate an additional 4,000 tonnes. "

The council is also reviewing the packaging recycling service. Immediate improvements include providing key recycling points with increased collections and additional containers being sited at a number of locations.
