Fight for Sick Kids shouldn't end here

9.36.55pm GMT Thu 6th Mar 2008

The news that specialist services at the Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital are to escape the axe, thanks in no small part to the Evening News' city-wide campaign, has been welcomed by Edinburgh South Liberal Democrats Mike Pringle MSP and Fred Mackintosh.

However, the pair are now keen to see the focus of the campaign look ahead to the long term future of the Sick Kids, and the long-awaited move to a new site next to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at Little France.

Fred Mackintosh commented, "the Sick Kids has a fantastic reputation, and a position as a leading children's hospital. However, a leading hospital needs a large, modern building if it is to continue to thrive. This is why I will be campaigning for the move of the hospital to a new, dedicated site at Little France."

A move has been on the cards for years now since a public consultation overwhelmingly backed the move. However, the Scottish Government has not made any progress on getting the project underway.
