Campaigning with Mike Pringle MSP and Fred Mackintosh

Big swing to Lib Dems in Edinburgh South

9.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th May 2007

A swing of 5.4% from Labour to the Liberal Democrats has seen local MSP Mike Pringle re-elected with a majority increased from 158 to 1929.

Fred Mackintosh said "This is magnificent result for the Liberal Democrats. I am delighted that the people of Edinburgh South have chosen the positive record of Mike as a local MSP over Labour's negative campaigns"

The SNP moved into third and the Conservatives slipped into fourth place. A disaster for a party that once held the constituency in the 1980s.
