Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP has welcomed the publication of a further legal view point from Professor Adam Tomkins on the Scottish Government's referendum proposals.
Willie Rennie MSPProfessor Tomkins concludes that a Scottish referendum Bill 'would, quite clearly, not be law.'
Mr Rennie has urged the SNP to accept this and work with Scottish Secretary, Michael Moore, to deliver the necessary controls to the Scottish Parliament in order to hold a legal and fair referendum on Scotland's future.
Commenting Mr Rennie said:
"This leading academic has clearly put the final nail in coffin of the prospect of the referendum being held by the Scottish Parliament without the necessary powers being transferred from the UK Government.
"Alex Salmond needs to recognise this, respect the law and work with the UK Government to make this necessary change so the referendum can be legal and fair.
"Scotland's future should be determined by the people not the courts."
